Resizing changes how many pixels your image contains, which directly affects file size and how sharp it looks at a given display size. Downsizing a huge photo before you compress it often saves far more space than quality tweaks alone—especially for websites, thumbnails, and messaging apps.

Locking aspect ratio keeps width and height proportional so subjects are not stretched. Unlock it only when you need a fixed canvas, such as a banner with strict dimensions. For print, resolution depends on inches and DPI; for screens, pixel dimensions (for example 1920×1080 or 1200×630 for social previews) matter more than abstract “quality.”
