Create Photo Collages Free — No App, No Upload

This free online collage maker lets you combine multiple photos into a single image directly in your browser. There is no app to install and no account to create — just pick a layout, add your photos, and download. Everything runs locally on your device, so your pictures are never sent to any server.

Collage Layout Templates

Six grid templates are available, each suited to a different number of photos and a different purpose:

Customization Options

You can change the spacing between photos from zero (no gap, for a seamless mosaic look) up to 50 pixels. Wider spacing creates a clean, framed feel; zero spacing merges the photos into a single image. The background color fills the gap areas — white, black, or any hex color you choose. If you want a dark minimalist look, set the background to black with thin spacing.

Use Cases

Social media posts. A 2×2 collage fits perfectly as a single Instagram post when you want to show multiple angles of something without posting four separate images. For Facebook albums or WhatsApp messages, a 3×3 grid lets you share a full event in one image.

Before and after. Use the 2×1 (side-by-side) layout to compare images — fitness progress, home renovation, design mockups, photo editing before/after, or product differences.

Invitations and announcements. A 1×3 or 3×1 strip makes a clean photo strip for birthday invitations, wedding announcements, or event flyers. Export the collage as PNG for maximum quality, then add text in any design app.

Product photography. Online sellers often need to show a product from multiple angles in one listing image. A 2×2 or 3×1 layout lets you combine close-ups, lifestyle shots, and detail views into a single image that fits most marketplace requirements.

Travel and memory albums. Instead of sharing a dozen individual photos, create one 3×3 grid collage from a trip. It loads instantly in chats and gives viewers a complete picture at a glance.

Tips for Better Collages

Use consistent aspect ratios. If you mix portrait and landscape photos in the same grid, the tool fits them all proportionally. For the cleanest look, crop your photos to the same aspect ratio before making a collage — use the Crop Image tool to standardize them first.

Resize before you collage. Very large source images (10MB+ from a DSLR) can slow down rendering on older phones. Run them through the image compressor first, or resize them to a reasonable screen resolution.

Match orientation. Portrait photos work best in portrait-oriented layouts (1×2, 1×3). Landscape photos suit horizontal layouts (2×1, 3×1). The 2×2 and 3×3 grids work with any orientation since each cell is square.

Background color. White backgrounds look clean and neutral — good for product shots. Black backgrounds create a dramatic frame that works well for portraits and travel photos. Try matching the background to a dominant color in your photos for a cohesive look.

Privacy

All photo processing happens entirely inside your browser using the Canvas API. Your images are never uploaded, stored, or analyzed. The tool works offline once loaded — install it as a PWA on your device for instant access anywhere without an internet connection.

Frequently Asked Questions

What image formats can I use in a collage?

You can use PNG, JPG, WebP, AVIF, HEIC, BMP, and GIF images. All formats are processed directly in your browser — no upload needed.

Can I customize the collage layout?

Yes. Choose from six grid templates (2×1, 1×2, 2×2, 3×3, 1×3, 3×1), adjust spacing between photos (0–50px), and change the background color. Each template is designed for a specific number of photos and orientation.

What resolution will my collage be?

The output resolution matches the source images — the tool composites at full quality using the Canvas API. For high-quality prints, use large source images (2000px+ per side). For web sharing, the default output quality is suitable for any social media platform.

Is there a limit on the number of images?

The number of images depends on the template. 2×1 and 1×2 use 2 photos, 2×2 uses 4, 3×3 uses 9, and the 1×3 / 3×1 layouts use 3. If you add more images than the template supports, extras are ignored. Since all processing runs in your browser, very large images may be slower on older devices.

What format is the downloaded collage?

Collages are downloaded as PNG files, which preserves maximum quality with lossless compression. If you need a smaller file for sharing on WhatsApp or email, use the Compress PNG tool to reduce the file size after downloading.

How do I make a collage for Instagram?

Use the 2×2 template for a standard square post (1:1 aspect ratio), or 1×3 for a portrait carousel slide. For Instagram Stories (9:16), use the 1×2 or 1×3 layout with portrait-orientation photos. Download as PNG and then share directly to Instagram.

Can I make a before-and-after collage?

Yes. Use the 2×1 (side-by-side) layout with your before image on the left and after image on the right. Set spacing to 2–5px for a clean dividing line between the two photos. This layout is also used in the Image Comparison tool if you want a draggable slider instead.
